That's like asking if you should wear shoulder pads when you play football. It's a must in my book.

I had a 300EX stolen, and my insurance co. covered it so I was very thankful. Maybe this will help your decision but mine is insured now!

I'll agree with insurance for a new ATV. I wouldn't want to be paying on a ATV that I can't afford to make ridable or that isn't in my possetion.

However I don't have a new ATV,. I have a '85 ATC. There is no point in insuring a 15 year old machine that you paid cash for and can afford to replace. With that in mind, what about liability insurance? Is it worth it? Obviously I would need to check with my rental insurance policy to see what it covers.

I hate insurance, it is immoral. However we are stuck with it, and with as many lawyers as we have around you can't live without it for many things. Is this one?

just thought i'd drop a line here--
Just got insurance thru weinsurefun.com after getting much higher quotes from other sources. Here is the low down:
I am 24. I am single. I have 2 tickets in the past 3 yrs. I have a Rancher ES 4x4.

Quotes I recieved for full coverage damage, theft, and 20/40 liability.
ATVline.com $ 466.70
Progressive $ 552.00
weinsurefun.com $ 165.00

all these quotes are for 1 yr of coverage, with $250 deductible. Why are they so far apart? I have no clue.

Here is something you might not know. If you are carrying you ATV in your truck or pulling it on your trailer, and you have a wreck, say a tire blow on the trailer and it flips. Or you fall asleep and run off the road... Your car insurance will not cover your ATV. If you are hauling someone elses, it will cover theirs as a liability loss.

I had an XR-400. New in 97, and just before I got it went riding in the forest. Met up with a guy in the parking lot who had hit a tree with his XR. When I got home, I priced the front forks, front rim, triple clamp, etc.... Everything but the brake line. Close to $1500.00 in just parts. And the bike only cost $4600 new. I went right out and insured it for theft and collision, and liability.

Think about it. It makes since, and isn't really that expensive.

Ride Red,
Gary

I just bought a Honda Rubicon and was told by my friend to look up with motor vehicles whether I need plates, insurance etc. In NY you need plates and insurance if you use the vehicles anyplace but your own property. I suggest you check out MV in your area. good luck

If you keep your ATV at your house, your home owners ins. will cover it. Stolen, any way.

Wrong! Most homeowners insurance will not cover recreational vehicles!
