Rincon 680 trail performance

Thanks parkgt.
I'm starting to lean more towards the rincon. After reading other forums that were suggested to me and how they have pulled things (considering it is true) and with me not pulling anything at all I think it will be fine. With your opinion of slow crawling, esp rock crawling I think it will be fine. I'm also not planning on putting oversize tires on it, so some of the stories I read about not turning the tires over in the mud should not be a problem for me.
I appreciate everyones suggestions and opinions. Won't be picking it up until Saturday so keep the info coming. Anything I may want to watch for or add to the bike as a precaution would be helpful?

Is it your goal in life to stay on the Honda forum when you ride something else just to put them down?
END OF QUOTE*
It's my PREFERANCE to go to ANY forum that I choose to, so long as I stay within the guidlines of the forum rules.
I have owned just about every major brand ATV on the market with the exception of Cannondale and unlike many that will give false mis-givings and statements about a certain ATV to justify their purchase, I wont!--I own it, I'll give you MY opinion,if yours differers from mine, that does not mean that im putting the ATV down.--Get OVER it!

Hey Raptor5 can a new guy chime in? I don't think there is a bad bike made anymore, all the big bores will haul the mail and stand the hair on your neck. I started riding in '71 and I've ridden everything from a '72 Suzuki Cyclone 400 to a new Goldwing in two wheelers. I've only ridden a '04 Rancher and a '04 Polaris and a Prairie atv though before this spring when I bought a "new" '05 Rincon. I've added a new LRD pipe, Unifilter, the air box cut up and the snorkel opened up, the carb rejetted and it will scare me when I push it. It does ride a lot plusher and handle better than the others that I've ridden. Big whoop, 3 bikes and I don't mud. There are plenty of guys on www.rinconriders.com that do though. There aren't any moutains around here either, but there are hills and I've never had a problem with engine braking. I use the 1st gear and the brakes. The thing I haven't noticed anyone pointing out is the trans on the Rincon. Maybe I missed the post, but there is no belt on a Rincon either. I'd get out and ride whatever you're thinking about buying before laying down the cash.

I agree with that. Dont buy anything till you have ridden it or one like it. I have been lucky and got to try out a lot of stuff before I bought. Usually just from meeting people on the trails.
To answer your question, I creep up a lot of stuff with the Rincon. No, it does not take much throttle. You dont have to rev it. Nothing creeps like the old Foreman though.

In the new ATV Action mag they have a shoot-out between the 06 Rincon and the King Quad and the Brute Force 650. The new Rincon won the shoot-out. They said "We have our 700 class winner, the Honda Rincon 680. This atv runs so well, feels so good and does so much it had us wishing every piece of equipment we used worked so well. Its a winner with class"

and to think I kept ATVRider, Quad, & Dirtwheels but canceled ATVaction......
I'll have to go buy that one, I'd like to read it. In the magazines listed above there have been some great articles on the '06 Rincon. Good reads and no real jabs at it like there have been in the past. (and yes, I believe that everything in the mags is not believable but overall most of the stuff isn't bad)

Raptor5, Have you noticed that the people who don't like the Rincon, don't have one. I have an 05. My buddy has an 06. We both love them. Yes it will crawl up the tech stuff. It will also be more stable than the Rubi. What with the independant rear. But if this was all I was doing, that Rubicon sure does have alot of bottom end grunt. You've stated that downhill doesn't bother you? The Rubicon would be a much better chioce. The Rincon will literally freewheel down hills. It can get a little dicey. As far as a locker? Whats the big deal. If one wheel is dangling in the air doing nothing. Pump the front brakes and the power will transfer. A little tip that alot of people don't know. I ride at Windrock and its nothing for us to ride 100 plus miles in a day of trails. All types, some smooth some tricky. The Rincon will ride you comfortably all day. As far as a Bomb beating a Rincon? Yes the right rider(fearless) will everytime. The Bomb is unreal. I ride with a guy who has one. On the trails, through the bumpy offcamber stuff I smoke him. But on a straight away, He leaves me like I hit the brakes. It has double the horsepower and weighs the same. But theres no other utility quad that handles better than a Rincon Period. Read the tests. Pro riders say it all the time. Listen to the people who ride them. And not just to their mailbox. But again if pure hard climbing is your thing? You might want to at least ride the Rubicon.

Rinman,
Thanks for the info. Will not be doing the slow riding all of the time, that's really why I want to get the Rincon. Just want to make sure that it will handle it when the time comes. I've ridden an older Rubicon and know what to expect there. I currently do not have an atv so riding a Rincon is limited to the parking lot at the dealership. Sounds like the bike for me. Decisions, decisions.
