I presently own a 2000 Rancher 4x4 ES. I am in the process of purchasing a second ATV and am deciding between the Foreman ES and the Rancher ES 4x4s. Although I have been pleased with the performance and handling of my Rancher, I am considering the Foreman for the larger horsepower and bigger frame. The Rancher, having a dry sump vs. the Foreman's wet sump system have some people telling me this factor excells the Rancher over the Foreman in technology. Also, with the Rancher's 9.7" of ground clearance secondary to the dry sump gives an advantage of ground clearance over the Foreman. I am requesting opinions from those ATVers who have experience in riding both machines as to the pros and cons of owning either Honda. I also will use this machine for snow plowing and question which machine may have better capacities for this task.

Acording to either dirtwheels or atv action, the rancher is a better quad. but that depends on what you entend to do. the foreman is a tougher workhorse, but for riding, i would go with the rancher.

the 400 foreman has been popular around here in the hills of ohio, i know of 8 guys who have had them since 97 and sujected them to some very adverese mud and hill riding. two of them have over 3000 miles(most of them hard). andthey seam to keep on running. my best freind just took his to have a new swing arm bearing put in it at 3756 miles. only maintanance he had to due other than tires and oil changes...so i bought my first quad last month. 20001 foreman 400 love it so far. taking it to the deer woods to work it there tomorrow. seems to be one dependable machine from what i see, a real workhorse

I've had my '95 foreman for almost 2 years now and i havent had a problem with it since. I had to replace the tires because the stock ones sucked but i really wouldnt consider that a problem. I use mine around the farm that i work at, for hunting, snow riding, snow plowing, and just goofing off. It's a really great quad and i ride it like there's no tomorrow and i havent had a problem yet. I reccomend this to anybody

It just a law of physic that a heavier more powerful quade like the 450 Foreman will out plow , pull and carry, a lighter and smaller size Rancher. You have you trail rider machine already get the big boy foreman for the big jobs.
