They still use the same size batt that they always have.
Its just very bothersome that many of our dealers, just keep on giving us the run around with these electrical problems. Is there an answer????? Is there a fix for these quads???? What happened to bulletproof reliability hondas are known for?? Yes the engines are amazing everyone knows that even the competition, but what can we do about these electrical problems?? Is there anyone out there with the answer to. " I have a ES shift problem"
Dude, I'm so with you.
I need some help folks. I have a 2001 450ES. Doesn't shift. I went through the factory service manual and a Clymer. Everything checks out. I bought a new shift control unit (ouch!!), plugged it in and...nothing. Battery is good-12.9V. Shift motor works when voltage applied. Angle sensor functions as it should. I have lotsa hours and money into this. Anybody have any ideas?

Default adding to the shift problem info

I have a 2000 & 2001 foreman 400es. the 2001 had interm. problems with the shift from the gitgo. it would just not shift. you would need to turn it off then back on and it was fine. really intermitent . now, 12 years later, its starting to do the same thing. but more regularly.
I did discover that the current problem was due to probably a low battery but that was really not confirmed. and with that, I discovered that there is a short somewhere that drains the battery in a overnight or so. I have isolated it to the ignition by test lamp / buzzer and fulling fuses until the beep goes away. now I am at a loss. . . . and its not 100% short but just causes the beeper to slightly beep. if I turn on the ignition of course its a full connection and a much louder beep. (I disconnected the ground from the battery and use the test thing between the neg. cable and the battery post)
sonow im at a loss as to where to check or what to check. do I start by taking off all the plastic or could it possibly be a bit easier than that ? help. . . I think it could be related related to the orig. shifting problems but im not an expert by any stretch. . . . anyone have any ideas ? ? ? ?
I suppose I should say ive pretty much just used these on the farm and they have had a pretty easy life. . . im 71 and trying to survive on s/s so bringing it to a shop is totally out of the question. thanks for any ideas you may have. . .
