Default 400ex vs raptor 660

I owned both at the same time. (Just sold my Raptor an hour ago).

Stock vs stock, the Raptor kills the 400ex in drags, motor etc. (Raptor is 38hp stock, and I think the 400ex is somewhere in the high 20's)
Piped, jetted, and airbox mods, the Raptor spanks the 400ex hard. (Raptor gets close to 48hp with these mods, the 400ex nowhere close).

I agree with one of the posters that said the riding position is a little different on the Rappy, in that it has a higher seat height, and a little more narrow rear axle width.

You just ride it differently. It is also 25lbs heavier I think (been a while since I compared the stats.)

But, with both in the garage, I would choose the raptor for the extra power. Throttle wheelies in 4th, and clutched ones in 5th.

But the 400ex was a great quad, bulletproof reliable (so was the Raptor). Just a little weak in the motor department for me.

If you ever rode a honda you would know they have more power out of the gate than anything exactly the same size engine of another wheeler it will smoke em. So of course if you compare agianst a raptor it will lose. I would like to see a stock raptor agianst a 250 r bored to 330 with 6 gears with mods I don't think it would have chance.

my dads buddy ahs a 01 or 02 660 with sprokets and holeshots(20x11x9) and he raced my dads other buddy who has a stock LTZ 400 and the 660 had a hard time keeping up with the LTZ. i also raced the LTZ on my 400ex and they are about the same, what i mean is that the LTZ beat me off the take off and we would be very close through out the rest of the race. so what does that tell you. I hope that helps.

Im not sure if you read this topic from top to bottom, but the '04 660 i raced with my '03 400ex couldnt leave me. If you have read the top of the topic, what your saying is the 660 i raced is having serious problems? or are you just saying a 660ci is bigger so its going to win?

what changes were made(up or down teeth) to the sprockets? that is interesting to hear about the 400ex hanging with the LTZ, because i keep hearing the speed of the LTZ is unbelievable.

Hate to burst your bubble 400ex boys, stock for stock, modded for modded, the raptor 660 BLOWS THE DOORS off of the 400ex, in the motor department anyways...

There isn't nearly as much difference between the EX and Z400 as people would have you believe. Unbelievable is a stretch, putting it mildly.

And paintballbanshee, considering the Raptor is 260cc's larger....it's just flat out disappointing in stock form.

Raptorlegs is dead on about the 400ex & Z400 being closer matched than the critics want you to believe. I used to own a '01 400ex & now have a '03 Z400. The Z only feels "alot" faster because it has a good midrange surge, whereas the 400ex pulls very linear everywhere.

Also, back to the original topic, when I had my 400ex one of my riding buddies had an '02 Raptor. My piped 400 would be dead even against the stock Raptor thru 3rd. After that he was gone.
