Default Rubicon with no drive

Hi, my 02 Rubicon has suddenly developed a problem. It was fine for rounding up sheep yesterday, shut it off as usual, when we switched it back on it would not drive, with a nasty grinding in forward or reverse ( auto). We found it was low on oil but filling it up didnt help. Local Honda dealer says we have probably stripped a gear but we should try resetting something or other first, otherwise it is a case of stripping the engine. Has anyone seen this before? Any information welcome.
Thanks

Hi Braco,
If I understand the reset question right, here's what Abernathy's told me to do after I had about 3 or 4 angle Sensors replaced. "Thank goodness for exrended warranty's"
I'm not 100 % positive but here's what you should try. With the key switch off hold the up and down arrows in, then turn the key to the on position without starting the bike. Then you release the arrows at the same time then push the arrows in this order......up then down then up again now release the up arrow and push the throttle all the open and release....you should here the electric motor that changes the gears move for about 4 seconds. After the sound stops you push the bike forward or backward about 15 feet. Now the motor assembly should be reset. If you have a stripped gear this won't help. Hope you have good luck and it's not a stripped gear....Mayorstt

What gear could be stripped in a fluid drive transmission?

Default Rubicon with no drive

Hi Dan, I was wondering the same thing and I came to the conclusion that they was not talking about 1st thru 5th gear but a gear in the housing of the transmission. I went here...
http://www.off-road.com/dirtbike/aug...fa/index2.html .....and found a pic of the inside of the tranny that shows what looks like some small gears connected from the shifting motor to the rest of the tranny. I'm like you I really didn't understand what they was talking about. I hope Braco has good luck and not a serious problem.

OK, Ive tried the resetting with the buttons thing, both in ESP and auto positions but no sound from the gear motor at all. Guess its an engine out job

Your right, I did it wrong. I have now got it to initialise OK and checked the fault code. Unfortunately my local dealer tells me it is most likely to be the hydrostatic drive unit. My next problem is that this is a bike I imported from the states to where I live in Scotland. A new pump is over $2000 here and I am not sure if Honda like to encourage import /export of bikes so they may be less helpful with a subsidised pump but I can always try.
