It needs no additives, its all mechanical, and theres no wear items inside the pumpkin.
The reason one tire will spin, which is up in the air, is by design. The only way torque can transferr to the tire with traction, is if the spinning tire has SOME resistance. Its called bias...and its needed for the torque sensing type to work. If its up in the air, and has no resistance to spinning, it cant trasfer any torque to the tire with traction. It takes some practice, but the front brake will provide the resistance that the diff needs to transfer the power to the one with traction. Think of it as hondas answer to a locking diff. Its not perfect, but for 99% of riding it works very well. But its not for the hardcore mudders.
If you want a fully automatic locking diff, for a honda, get the detroit gearless locker..its not too spendy, and it does work as advertized.
