Gruzzy-We just finished developing a test for colon cancer, that uses a stool sample. Polyps and tumors make abnormal mucus, so I made a monoclonal antibody to that mucus, and it can be used in a simple ELISA test to detect them. The test is more reliable than the occult blood test, and certainly more convenient for the patient than a colonoscopy!

We were granted a patent on the technology. We are just about to publish the results of a long trial. Whether the test will ever be commercially viable and we all get rich, only the future will tell.

ReconRanger, hope the product gets to market. Something like this could save a lot of lives and make treatment much easier on the patient. I would have loved to have had your test kit. Then maybe I would not be setting here getting chemo and seeing my chances for a weekend ride go bye-bye. Oh well, into every life a little rain must fall. And I'll ride in a few weeks and appreciate it that much more. It's just more time to add goodies to the ol Rancher 350. I may just start calling it the Rancher 329.

Keep up the good work, we who have cancer really appreciate the work done to help us.

Both my wife and her father died of colon cancer, so this is no trivial matter to me! It was probably a genetic thing (Lynch syndrome), so my kids have a 1 in 4 chance of having inherited the same...........

Well thay sucks, but listen to my story. Early June I was in a car accident and i broke my neck, i broke one vertibre and damaged another. So anyways now i'm fused from 3 to 6. I was laying on my back for two weeks in the hospital, which is not fun let me tell you. Then i had to relearn to walk, and i'm experienceing nerve damage in my hands, and now very little in my legs. The doctor can't tell me how well I will recover, but so far i'm improving well enough. I'm still in a neck brace and now i'm off to college. While i was at home healing my brother told me that the quad that I had been eyeing out is now for sale. So of course i bought it, and can not wait to actually ride it!

ReconRanger, I can't imagine worrying about your child having a 1 in 4 chance of getting the disease since I have no kids. I don't have to tell you what it is like to have this problem. To go through that with two different people, that's tough. I truly am sorry for your loss. I started back on chemo yesterday, good ol' 5FU, after about a 3 month layoff for surgery. I'm getting it systemically and directly into the liver, so both of my ports are being used. No N&V yet and I probably won't get any with just 5FU. But later I'll get put back on irinotecan and possibly oxaliplatin (which I hate most of all).

What really bugs me right now is that I had planned to go riding this weekend with a group of guys and learn some new trails. I can live with the chemo, but I want to ride. So I guess I'll ride around the yard and use the time to fix my ATV trailer. Loaned my trailer to my sis to move some furniture, and it came back with the tongue bent. Somebody kack-knifed it and didn't even tell me. I don't think it was my sis though. Bent the tongue about a foot to the right. How could they not know they did it, where was the spotter. Didn't they notice it tracked kinda funny going down the road. Probably looked like it was trying to pass them. Oh, well.
