Default recon rear axle seal and bearing replacement

So has anybody replaced the left side seal and bearing on the rear axle? Not the side that the brake shoes are on that one was easy. My questions are , does the gears have to come out to access the bearing, or does it come out from the outside of the housing ? That would be quite a job if the rear has to come apart! Any special tools needed?

Default recon rear axle seal and bearing replacement

Sounds like the rancher rear is a little different than the recon rear ( I know the foreman is also) . Has anybody with a recon tackled this project? I studied the clymer manual last night and looking for any tips or advice. I am dead set against having the dealer do this , they said they would never estimate this job, sounded like they had no more experience than I do, and I HATE to be ripped off by dealers with inexperienced mechanics! Thanks for any help.

I guess no one has ever replaced the rear bearings in their recon, I know its a tough one and the right people probably havent seen this post yet , so I will keep trying to keep it on the front page, I dont want to ruin my axle!
