Default 450R trans problems

How many people have had tranny problems with your TRX 450R? ive got an 05 that I bought new in august and it pops out of gear. I guess ATP has a fix for it. Im going to take it in since its still in warranty. I hope I dont have problems with the dealer,it wont act up untill its good and hot, about 15 min of riding. You would think Honda would know about this problem. Thanks for any info

Sounds like its the shift drum , make sure they check it that would mean pulling out the motor and splitting the cases

What kind of lube you using in your trans?????

Mine is fine, and so are all my friends. Never heard of any widespread problems. No posts in this forum I can remember about "trans problems"............

My only complaint is that it is really easy to miss second when upshifting from first (and end up in neutral) on my machine.

No problems on my '04. But like recon says, sometimes miss second, usually it will happen under heavy acceleration, but not often.

And, it is a good idea to run an extra 100cc's of oil in your trans (some run a full quart), but this is most important in the 06/07's.

im running Honda 10w40, Its the MA rated stuff for wet clutches. Glad to hear its not a wide spread problem. There are some guys on the 450rheadquarters site that have had problems, but I had to do a search to find it. not current stuff. i guess an 05 isnt current
Ill see what the dealer says. Thanks

If you are running GN4, my personal opinion is that it it pretty wimpy stuff, that's formulated to meet a price point. At least run HP4 (without moly), which is beefed up with synthetics.

Or, try running Honda's own red HP Trans Oil or Maxima MTL.

I run Maxima Extra on both the trans and engine sides, because I prefer its very high ester content.
