Default What to do?? 460 Big Bore kit

Well what is the best set up for the big bore 460 kit for the 400EX?

I have: Hinson clutch set up
Hot Cam stage 1
Curtis Spark Advance Ignition Key
Curtis Spark Rev Limiter
Curtis Spark X-6 Exhaust
Pingry Oil tank, 1 quart more

I was looking into getting the Hot Rod +4 mm longer rod with the 460 larger piston.

What should I do for the Head and valves, gasket set, gears, larger oil cooler, or anything else I should add. I dont want to run race gas. All I have here is pump gas, with an octane booster.

I am planning to replace all the gears and bearings and seals in the bottom end also.

Thanks for the help.

So do you think the best results for this motor will only be race gas? Or would a higher octane work with a lower compression ratio? Or would this defeat the purpose of having a 460 and better off going with a 426 or 440?

What compression ratio piston will you be getting?
The size of the bore and stroke do not determine if you need race gas, the compression does.
You should be able to run up to an 11.0:1 piston without race gas.

If your putting a stroker crank in your bike You have to run race gas.. it raises your compression.. this is what i have been told by every company i have been in contact with.. it makes perfect since if you think about it.. if i was you i would cough up the extra cash for a 13:1 comp piston and still get the 460 kit with the stroker crank thats me! if you want alot of power make some scarafices! Oh and also A really good port and polish job, you should be set to go with the stuff you already have..

i second fast250x, the 100 octane with the 13 to 1 compression would definately get your attention, if you can find it get a bigger oil cooler cause its gonna run a good bit hotter im guessing. depending on what your doing with it too though, for trails trinity racing told me a 440 kit would run too hot. octane booster is a waste of time my man! plus 100 octane is cheaper in the long run and smells delicious! i know a guy that uses it as cologne.

Thanks for the replys. I am not sure what size piston I would get, but we dont get any higher octane then the 87 or 89. One of the lowest. I live on an Island, and our fuel gets barged in, so they get what cost the less. I might have to just get a smaller bore over.

I will have to do more research. I would love to get the big bore, with massive power. I already beat the 450's off the line, but after 75-100 feet or so they pass me and I am about 3 bike lengths behind in a 200yd. drag. So with the biger motor I might beat or be right behind them.

I do alot of trail, beach, dune riding, and jumping.. Almost a little bit of everytihng.

Thanks.

If you put a big bore stroker in it and it doesn't raise the compression above 11.0:1 you DO NOT need race gas! Period!
Race gas is to be used in higher compression engines, not bigger bore engines!

ok ok my bad i read up on it and ur right doesnt create more compression just dissplacement... but in that thought i would still run a 13:1 compression with the crank its going to set you up the way you need to be! yes race gas is more expensive and yes you will have to have it when you run that compression piston on the bike.. but this is just what i would do! im sending my crank to powroll this winter and geting my 12 ;1 comp piston changed over.. they told me no matter if i went up on the piston or not i would have to run race gas... thats just what the company told me...

See, fast250x, you're running 12:1 so you should run a race gas mix.

URCRAZY, keep your compression at 11:1 max and your pump gas will be fine.
All that oil up there and you can't get good octane gas at a good price.
All your oil gets shipped here for refining and we have some of the highest prices in the nation!
