Did you get a 450R maintenance guide in the mail???

Honda sent me a maintenance guide for the R. This may indicate that they are having reliability issues brought on by owners neglecting maintenance!
They do stress engine oil issues, and it says in bold black letters to: "Check and change your engine oil often" (although they don't suggest an exact timetable).
As for the trans, they stress not to UNDERFILL IT: "If you simply pour oil into the filler until it comes out the check hole, there is a good chance you will underfill the transmission".
Air filter maintenance is also stressed.

That's what I am wondering! Like I said, I think there are reliability issues cropping up related to owners neglecting maintenance. I know folks with 450's, who would never change their oil once a year, much less every few hours. And valve adjustments.......what's a valve adjustment????
Salesmen are selling these machines to just anybody, which is a big mistake. THIS ISN'T A 400EX THAT WILL DO JUST FINE EVEN IF IT IS NEGLECTED. This is a quad for an enthusiast, and an enthusiast that is into maintenance at that...........
How many of you who got letters have an extended warranty???? Maybe they are hedging their bets, so when you come in for some warranty work, they can say they sent you the letter but you neglected the maintenance so your warranty is void??????

Still no letter and I don't have an extended warranty.

This engine will do best with VERY FREQUENT oil changes. I average 2-5 hours, which for me is a typical desert day ride. I also suggest a synthetic oil (Maxima Extra is my personal choice). I am checking the valves every 20 hours.
