Ok, the starter on my 85 TRX250 has been bad since I bought the thing about 4 years ago.
Ive always just kicked it over without any problems but lately the kick starter is hit or miss.

Sometimes it turns the engine over with no problems ,and sometimes it turns like it isent even connectted to the engine.

Do these things actually wear out or is it possibly a problem with the fly wheel?
It seems that once it started and has been riden for a long while there is much less of a chance of it not starting the engine.

Any ideas?

I have seen that happen before on an old Honda. You can kick start it one good time then you have to wait for something to spin down before trying again. It also had electric starter problems. Never really looked into why it was happening. I brought up the parts diagram for a 85 TRX250, it looks like there is 2 springs, one to return the kick starter and one to push a on a gear called the "ratchet" Maybe that ratchet gear is warn down just enough or it could be a broken/weak spring.
