Adjusting gas reservoir on 400ex rear shock?
I was looking over my recently purchased '02 400ex and I noticed the gas reservoir on top of the shock had a valve on the side, indicating to me that one could either add more or let some out if so desired. Has anyone messed with it? Should you mess with it? I'm thinking it shouldn't be touched, but then wonder why it's there? So, I thought I'd ask if anyone out there can school me up on the subject. Thanks!

You can add more to it but you better know what your doing. When adding nitrogen gas, make sure you have gauges. It's mainly there if you rebuild the shock to add gas to it. Putting some in won't hurt. Too much and you could blow the shock on a big jump. I would leave it alone. If it blows, it won't hurt you but could destroy shock.

It is probably not necessary to mess with it, and you will most likely do more harm than good. If you feel like you need some shock tuning, do it by the book: http://atv.off-road.com/atv/article/....jsp?id=192286

I don't feel the need to mess with it, as the stock setting is perfect for my needs. I suspected it shouldn't be touched, but like I said, I wondered why it was there? After all, the only bikes I've ever seen with separate nitrogen cylinders were the MX ones. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.
