Default 2003 Forman Rubicon

I just bought a 2003 Rubicona as a basket case, it only has 200 miles on it and the tranny packed up while the guy was riding it across the compound he works at. is this a common problem or has anyone heard of this happening with these models before. I'm picking it up wednesday and I'm going to have to go through the tranny and find out WTF. It looks like a beauty and I can't wait to get 'er back on the trail.

Thanks for any input.

Lenny

Put many miles on two Rubicons without a single problem. This is the first I have heard of anybody with tranny problems. For what it's worth, used synthetic oil. Cheap insurance. VERY unusual for a 2003 to only have 200 miles! Are you sure?

I bought it from Duke Energy, they used it for going back and forth from the tank car dock to the office building(approx 300 meters) and my buddy was the one who used it most so I know everything about it since it was brand new. it has sat at the plant for over a year now and they just decided to get rid of it.

I guess I'm looking for a new tranny for it if anyone knows where a good used one is!!!!!!

keep in touch!

thanks,

Lenny

Some of the ealry model 03's still got the bad oil pump, which lead to HFT problems. New HFT is only 1200 bucks, new oil pump is a must, and don't forget to take apart the oil tank, seen alot of metal in those also.

Don't take any sort cuts on this one or it will come back and bite you. I have one and have worked on them sence they have came out.

I sure don't mind putting the money out for the parts if it is going to make a reliable machine, I'v heard nothing but good things about them and look forward to the reassembly.

How do you get the inner c.v. joint off of the shaft to put the new inboard boot onTextText on a 2000 Yamaha Kodiak 400 ultramatic

ANYONE PLEASE HELP.....

not too hard but the cv is pressed on to the shaft so you'll have to pound that off with out wrecking the splines. Otherwise just pull it out and take it into your dealer, should take them more than a 1/2 hour to replace the boot.

cluby, what years of rubicons have the weak oil pump? My 2001 is solid as a rock. the only issue i ever had is when I saw sommeone steel my nebors car and I cold started my rubicon at 10 deg F and instantly floored it to top speed in D1 while on the phone with 911, the tranny squeeled pretty strangly until it warmed up
