Looking for the perminate fix
#1
I have a 300ex and have already repaired a hole in the case from the chain.I have read a few topics of the same situation and my patch job is holding very well. But my new chain seems loose and the adjustment only holds for a few days. My question is what are some bad points to having the chain to tight? I decided to take out 1 link and set the axle as far forward as it will go, and hopefully it will still fit. When i put the new chain on, it lined up perfect, but was very loose. The adjustment seems to be as far as possible. So this seems like the only solution. Anyone else who buys a new chain usually take a link out? And where are the adjustment holes on your 300ex? I have 2 under the axle, and the last 1 pointing toward the back.

Just so everyone knows, don't take a link out. I had to put it back in. I turned the adjuster all the way up and it works differently than i thought. It seems to move the axle more up and down. And i tried twisting it upward and I got it pretty tight. So far so good.

fyi, make sure the allen screws dotn have dirt between them where they tighten up, they will seem tight but the dirt wil grind away and then the screw will be lose, causing your chain to losen up.

Just 2 questions I would like some advice with. On the chain tensioner, is up tighten or down? I found that up works the best and leaves less stress on the set screws. Also, how tight is to tight. It seems loose with no one on it, almost perfect when I sit on it, but seems to tight when my friend is on it. Which is about 75-100 lbs difference.

Doesn't matter what i do, the chain becomes loose after just an hour of riding. What could be broke inside the axle to cause this? I was tightening it today, turned it down to far. Felt something give, now it won't rotate back up.
