Default New TRX420 Rancher: Selectable 4x4???

Hi,
because news and information are rare in Germany about the new TRX420 Rancher here a question:

Is the 4x4 modell equiped with a selectable 4WD. Can I shift from 2WD to 4WD and backwards. It seems a silly question, but I can`t get this info here in Germany.

Thanks for your help.

Steff

Yes, there is a lever on the left side that is used to engage or disengage 4 wheel drive.

Ok, I thought it would be for the reverse gear. Reverse is than with the typical Honda fingertrick (smile).

The 2wd/4wd selector is a manual lever, and not the push button type found on Honda's other models. (Reverse is classic Honda.) In a way this may be good, because I have heard that when you turn the engine off on the push button models, it goes back to 2wd when you restart.....anybody want to confirm that?????

The owner's manual says the quad needs to be stopped to switch in and out of 4wd, but some have posted that it can be done on the fly. Honda may just be saying this for liability reasons, becasue you have to take one hand off the bars to do the shifting.........

One funny thing is that I keep forgeting to put mine in 4wd. I cleaned a couple of nasty rock crawling sections the other day, and when I was done I went to put it back in 2wd and realized that I had done it all in 2wd.....says something about the machine!

Open up the Rancher 4X4 selection and go to GALLERY. You will see the **** at the left of the bars....that is the selector. If you open up the 2X4 gallery, you will notice that that **** is missing.

Mine doesn't go back to 2wd when you turn key off

Not sure about honda, but Yamaha also says to stop before selecting 4x4......I always do it on the fly and never hurt anything......the main thing is to select 4x4 without a load on the drive train and keep the bars straight until it goes in.

squeege-You don't have a Honda 4X4, do you???? I don't see one on your list or in your picks (except for the 300EX). I was refering to the OTHER HONDA 4X4 MODELS taking themselves out of 4wd when the key is turned off....not necessarily any other manufacturers.

OHH!

My main point was that many manufacturers tell you you cannot shift on the fly, but If done correctly you can do it with no harm what so ever.....I do it all the time since 05' anyway
