First maintenance 20 hours
#1
I have a 07 Forman and the Honda service told me that it would be $180 should be done first 20 hours and the next 100 hour maintenance would be $60. The young man did not know why it so much for the 20 hour maintenance. Does anyone know why it so high?

Supposedly they check your valves, change your oil, sparkplug and diff fluid. All of this can be done by yourself. If you are mechanicly inclined. Look at your owners manual and it states you can do this. Just besure you keep receipts of what you buy for it. Keep a log.

i did mine myself at 6hrs and going to do it at 20 hrs. they also will adj valves, clutch, carb, break cables, thottle cable, tire psi, clean your air filter and change oil and filter. that is a full tune up, better be doing all that for 180!!!! if they are only checking the diffs i would ask them to change it, when i changed mine i had metal shavings in both, every one i talked to has had that with theres to, nothing to worry. ask them for a shop service manual they are around 60 bucks, i picked mine up for 7dollars used at my dealership. and do it yourself, the shop manual will have any thing and every thing in it on the quad, same one that the dealer uses! its easy and it'll get you more familier with teh quad, and for me, that money i saved can easly go to aftermarket goodies my .02 oh the oil filter BE CAREFULL PUT IT IN CORRECTLY!@!!!

20 hours is to long to wait to change the engine oil and filter, and diff oil on a new machine! This should be done very early on (like at 1 or 2 hours) to get the metal shavings out.....probably already to late for you....huh? Some info that might help you pick a good oil: http://www.thumperfaq.com/oil.htm
The 20 hour valve adjustment is VERY important!
It is always best to do as much maintenance yourself, as you are mechanically able to handle........

don't get scared, reconranger always sais the extream of things, i changed mine at 6 hrs, poeple try for 5 hrs..... i was having to fun one day.....as for every thing else recon ranger said besides the oil change take great head to. it IS verry inportant. the 20 hr maintance that is, i have bought my 1998 300 ex used, 2 years, if the owner did 1 oil change i would be suprised in the 2 years he ownded it, and i bought a kow prarie, 3 yr old, eng ran and that was it, roled to many times or what ever some one could do to an atv to get it looking the way it was when i purchased it, they both run awsome, just the same as the ones i changed after 5 tottal hrs of run time, i just feel safer doing it. so dont' get worried about it. if a dealer like honda, best reliability of any atv, sais to change it at 20 then u can. they have been in bisness for so many years with so many of there orriginal great 3-wheelers and quads still running to this day, just as well as new, with the same mainence period as u have today. all right i've said my peace. i'll shut up now.
