Dude I don't know the answer to this but I do know this. I read somewhere there was a guy who wanted a new Quadracer LT250R. So he went out and found a good frame. From there he ordered all new oem parts from suzuki and when he was finished. The total cost of the bike was over $23,000. Do you believe that! This guy either loves his suzuki's or he had more money than I do to spend. Anyway, a 250R in good shape holds it's value. Search and find a 250r that's bottom engine's in good shape along with the frame($1500 or so). Then stick in it about another $1500 or so. and have a sweet, fast R. Good Luck.

I did this last year. I found a 89 250r for $2000. I lucked out in finding it.

I ended up stripping the entore thing to the frame. Had it powdercoated and all. Anything that was a wear item, I replaced. Cost of parts about $4000 or more.

Now I have a completely aftermarket (only thing stock os the frame) MX 250R. Took me about a year to finish the project. But I love it, and I know it will hold its value. I could even make a profit on it right now.

As for jumping, friends that race 400ex's, have commented on nice the 250R jumps. Both the 400ex and mine have the smae shocks - TCS.

As for the best jumper, get a lobo chassis from Rool Design. That alone is about 8 grand. But that is a rolling chassis (Full Axis shocks). I have heard to go this road will put you just over 10 grand. I beleive it, since building mine was about 6 or 7.

The 250r will hold its value alot better than a 400ex. But to build one right it takes some cash.
The roll design frame is the way to go but look to spend 15 plus. I got a stock frame 89 that I bought for 6 and its worth alot more than that, you can get a deal if you watch. But make sure the frames not cracked. You can buy a new frame from honda for around 1500.00 but thats a bare frame. Whatever you do RIDE RED

You dont necesarly have to spend 10gs on an R to have a sweet machine! I prefer LTs myself but if you want you can get a Honda 250R in real good condition for about 3 or 4 grand. Sink another 1000 or so into it and you will have an mx/trail/anything else you can think of type of R that will smoke 400EXs at any type of riding!

A guy built one of the best looking quads i have ever seen.It was featured in atv action. It was a cr500 engine in a laegar frame and all the best aftermarket parts. He said it was about $20,000 to build. You could probaly buy a 400ex for alot cheaper than building a 250r in most cases but you could get a good deal so don't hold me against that.
