Cold Starting? What has happened to Honda?

I own 2 of the most widely-effected atv's, the 400ex and the recon. My recon used to be a bear to start when it was cold, but after I rejeted, it was fine. I believe that the problem is the lean-from-factory jetting, that makes them hard to start. This would also explain 94DGBlaster's difference between his two years.

My scrambler laughs in the face of ole man winter. It does'nt care if it's 30, 20, or 0 out, it fires every time, thats impressive for a two stroke quad.
Now I have the last laugh.LOL.
Being Americanized does'nt have anything to do with honduhs machines being losey in the cold, it's bad engineers.

We have 4 quads, 2 kawi, 1 yamaha and one Honda. The kawi Lakota starts every time the first time. It has been rejeted. As for the others it is sometimes a crapshoot. The all start. The honda requires the choke to be on a lot longer than the rest. So far it has not been a problem. We do not live in really cold conditions. I don't understand why some people get so defensive about thier quads. Mine serve the purpose for me, that is why i bought them. I know that some are better than mine and some are not as good.(in my mind)

My quad sits inside of my shed (not heated), but sometimes I get lazy and leave it out side.
Give me five pulls and it will fire. (I dont like using the electric start to fire it up first thing, it puts to much stress on the starter motor.)
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Volatility of gasoline:
For easy starting with a cold engine, gasoline must be highly volatile so that it will vaporize readily at a low temperature. Therefore, a percentage of the gasoline must have highly volatile hydrocarbons. (This percentage must be higher in the cold regions than in warm climates.)
So, in other words, if you have gas left over from the summer or fall, change it. Gas always differs from season to season. This is what could be causing your difficult cold starts.

Our Rubicon starts ok when it's cold out. Today, with a temperature around 5 degrees, it didn't want to start. The key was turned on for the carb heater to kick in, and the choke all the way out. After a while of cranking over, I pulled the seat off and the access panel by the engine, and primed it a couple pumps. Then it went. Can't they put the primer bulb in an easier place to get to? My 300EX usually starts easily with a couple blips of the throttle before starting. The accelerator pump really helps. I think some of the reason the Sportsman 500's start easily is because they have a fuel pump which gets the fuel to the carb when the motor is turned over. I do know that there is summer gas in the machines yet however. I know summer and winter gas has a lot to do with automobiles "knocking" in the winter also.
