If its performance you are looking for, I'd say definetely go with the Raptor. I'm not an expert in motor mods especially boring out motors, but I don't see how you can make up for 360 cc's. I could be wrong though!
01 400ex - AC propeg nerfs and front bumper, 14 tooth sprocket, tcs shocks all around
01 Banshee - bone stock

A 300ex and a Raptor are 2 totally different machines!! I would do some motor work on your 300!! If you like your 300 then keep it!! Or you can do exactly what you said!! I would change your pipe though, and get something with better performance that comes with it and you can rejet with your new filter!! And if want to change your sprocket, thats good too!! Its better than spending another 7000.00 versus 400.00 isn't it??? With a good pipe and filter that's would it would cost ya!! (I think)

The only thing there going to say over there is that his 300 is a piece of **** and put him in 7000 grand in debt!!! That's all there going to say. Unless get someone that might be realistic and maybe mature. But, that's getting pretty hard to find in this place!! Later

Maybe he didn't know that there was that much difference in price and I thought I would do that for him!!!!! Bashing??? That's not what I'm doing here!! It sounded like he was still interested in his 300. He mentioned some stuff and it looked like he just wanted some extra power. So I THOUGHT I would mentioned some things I would change to give him some extra UMPH!!!! In this case its not Honda vs Yamy. It is need more power or buy a new quad and he can easily do that by spending a couple hundred, not thousands.

I owned a Yamaha Warrior...all sorts of problems! Chain came off all the time, both front ball joints broke, had to replace brakes about once every other month (rear), wouldn't start half the time, and fouled spark plugs left and right. I now own a Honda...no problems for 2.5 years. My hubby and I owned the Warrior for about 9 months before we got smart! Also, we've talked to new Raptor owners and none of them are happy with the machines (3 people) for various reasons...most of the problems are with the carbs and the suspension. You'd be smarter to stick with the 300 and give the Raptor a year or 2 or 3 to work out the bugs!

Listen, i've never ridden a raptor so i can't say how it handles, but i can say that it's wayyy faster than a 300ex.
If you were saying that you're going to buy a new quad and wanted something really fast and said money was no object then i'd have to say go with the raptor.
BUT unless you are really crazy about the raptor i'd have to recommend staying with the 300ex and keeping the seven grand. You could put 2 or 3 grand into the 300ex and save $4000 and still have one hell of a quad.
Personally i'd love to own a raptor, it seems like one hell of a bike. BUT for $7000 i'd rather buy a used GSXR sport bike and keep my 300ex.
-One other comment i'd like to add here.
When i was at the dealer a few weeks ago i talked to one of the mechanics there about some of the quads they had laying around. Like i said, i never have had the chance to ride a raptor, nor have i had the luck of riding a 400ex. But according to the mechanic at the dealer, he said that he liked the 400ex better than the raptor because the raptor is too damn powerful. He said that it always felt like it's front wheels were off the ground and that it never felt like it was in control...or rather he felt like he was always out of control. He also said that the 400ex felt like it put more of its power to the ground rather than lifting the front up all of the time like the raptor.
Either way you'll have fun. Let us know what you do.
