ok, the fastest factory sport quad is the yfz 450. top speed is 75mph the raptor 700 ties it in the long run but the yfz will out run it by a quad length through the gears.
the honda 450r tops out at 74 mph. the suzuki quadracer 450 tops out at 70 due to it's 18 inch rear tires.as for the outlaw 525, it runs fast but it overheats if you are not out in the open.(I'd stay clear of any bike that runs hot) now if your looking into mods, dollar for dollar the banshee responds the best, the only thing with a banshee is it is all or nothing power...but if you must go for four stroke and are going to hop it up, there is no replacement for displacement so the raptor is the logical choice. you WILL need to up the compression and mod the head, change the cam mess with the efi & computer & change the pipe. For two grand LRD fixed up my old raptor 660 and I got 70 hp. It is all about the money and most important set-up/combination. you could always shoe horn in a street bike engine to a quad frame . now your talking power. the average street bike put out 150 hp. if your talking 4x4 can-ams renagade was the fastest but now artic cat has the thundercat 1000 but it is really a 950 monster. hope I answered your question. by the way if your brother is so impressed by the banshee , why look any further? they have been around longer than any other atv ever. ktm has their new 525 but its not out yet (I'd trust that over the polaris any day) the can am ds 450x looks promising but got beat by the yfz.

wow this is quite the discussion, but for the fastest 4-stroke, without modifications or anything, it can be a toss up. The truth is that the outlaw 525 is the fastest accelerating, but that only comes with perfectly timed shifts, and my research says that it shifts like a pig, so that is hard to achieve. Many tests have also been done, like straight drags between the Outlaw 525 and the Raptor 700, and the Raptor won every time. There's no replacement for displacement after all. The Outlaw isnt the best choice for a "sport quad" either, that IRS limits the Outlaw of the actual sport quad traits, such as drifting, donuts, etc... the things that require less traction, plus in comparison of an outlaw to a raptor, the outlaw can be considered a lemon, but we're not here to beat up on Polaris after all. As for a 2-stroke beater, the Can-Am DS 650 is definetely your best bet, at the sand drags at Dumont, the DS overtook a fair bit of the not too modded up 2-strokes. The DS has also gained more and more power in each year of its production, so the 2007 Can-Am DS 650 X is your best bet for something with power comparable to a banshee. P.S. No racing quad has a set top speed, the manufacturer has to cork up their quads ever since the quadzilla passed the 100mph mark, nuff said
