ESP won't shift
#1
Have a 2000 TRX350TE that I bought used in 2006. Have had no problems with it until last week. My son was riding it and said reverse would not work. Shifted fine up and down in forward gears. I broke out the service manual and started all of the diagnostics (continuity, voltage, resistance) and could not find anything wrong. Then I noticed the wire had come off of the reverse switch at the back of the motor. Connected it and it worked fine. Put it all back together and then nothing worked, no shifting up or down or reverse. Realized that I had damaged the connectors in the plug to the electronic control unit (ECU). I replaced them using some wires from a computer power supply. Now when I turn on the switch, the ECU clicks one time, still no shifting. One click each time the key is turned on. I plan on performing all of the diagonistic checks again this weekend (carefully) to see if there is a bad connection somewhere. Any ideas? Thanks.

I've checked all of them twice and don't see one blown. Will check again though. I also noticed something in the service manual about the ECU basically shutting down if it senses a problem, grounded wire, dead load, etc. Plan on trying to check that out also.

Yea I followed the troubleshooting steps. I did damge the connectors in the plug, so now I have to deal with that. Yesterday I crossed up the five-pin connector on the ECU with the other connector in front of the ECU and blew the 30 amp fuse twice before I realized what I had done. I guess it is time to stop being frugal, go ahead and bite the bullet, and take it to the shop. Real problem started out being the reverse switch had come unplugged. Ended up being a huge mess. My fault though.
