I had mine doing 63 no problem with stock tires. I now have 26 in Mudlite XTR's. Will probably lose a little top end, but don't see losing to much. Haven't been able to open it up to see. It seems the same in the bottom end. Plenty of power to pull the front off the ground....

I ride with a new 680 Rincon and it does 62 mph tops and is slower than a 41 hp 660 grizzly we ride with that can not do much over 65mph mph also.

The OHV 680 motor only makes 38HP ,no way a large Utility 4x4 ATV with only that much power will ever hit near 70 mph.

Polaris 850______69.06 hp
Can Am 800 R____67.05 hp (updated 2/13 to 70.5 hp)
AC 1000_________65.84 hp
Can Am 800______61.7 hp
Can Am 650______55.4 hp
Brute 750 Carb____50.1 hp
Brute 750 EFI_____49.8 hp
King Quad 750____49.6 hp
AC Mud Pro_______49.06 hp
King 700_________48.5 hp
Polaris 800_______48.3 hp
Brute 650 I________46.3 hp
Grizzly 700________45.6 hp
Polaris 700_______44.3 hp
AC 700 H1_______41.4 hp
AC 700__________41.4 hp
Brute 650 ________41.4 hp (solid axle)
Grizzly 660_______40.9 hp
Can Am 500______40.4 hp
AC 650 H1_______39.3 hp
Rincon 680_______38.5 hp
Grizzly 550________36.9 hp
King 450_________36.7 hp

There ATV higher on the HP food chain that do not hit 70 MPH.

You post the stupid HP chart all the time. HP does not necessarily equal speed. Gearing has a lot to do with it.

The other huge part of the equation is weight. You put me on my Rincon and we are under 800lbs total. A Polaris 800 plus a rider is usually well over 1000lbs. I am 20% lighter. I won't need as much HP to get me to a speed. This is why most horse jockeys are 100lbs (equal HP means weight is only advantage).

The third part of the equation is getting the HP to the ground. Honda is more efficient at this with the direct drive system and non belt drive tranny's. IMO

I am not saying that the Rincon is faster than all the ATV's on your list, I am just saying that HP is not the only thing involved. The Rincon is faster than most of them if you do more than a straight line (like trail riding). Kinda like a Muscle car vs. little sports car. Each one will perform better in its intended environment.

You need hp no matter what gearing, you can gear a ATV as tall as you want but it will only bog and not pull top gear and need a down shift if it does not have the HP to pull that tall last gear.

Whats weight have to do with things is more like it, I raced a 500 Foreman that weighs 100 lbs lighter than my heavy 700lb 500 and beat it start ,middle acceleration and top end with its direct drive and lighter weight.

The reason I can is because a Foreman makes almost 10hp less and the foreman does not over rev in top gear it just does not have the power to pull that last gear to a high rpm. OHV motor will never rev out like a OHC motor can, its just a fact of the motors thats why Honda has such low hp numbers for the motors cc displacement.
You do not see a OHV motor on any other make or any of Honda,s sport ATVs for that reason.

Horse Power does not mean anything, then why do people spend so much on mods to gain it?

I never said HP does not mean anything, I am saying that is not the complete story.

I know this is an old thread but I'm bored at work.. i can get my 06 Rincon up to bout 62 with 25 inch mudlites on it.. it doesnt take that long. The real thing thing is the rincon out handles most other 4x4 atvs.. I only say most because I havent had hardly any seat time on the can ams.. but compared to a XP/sportsman,King Quad,Brute,or grizzly this thing so out classes them it shouldnt even really be compared. Just like the RINCON isnt made to do any real work either. Not to mention all that extra horsepower on some of those other insane CC quads is just about totally useless.. unless your driving in dunes/fields all day or have a tiny ***** =). The trails where I do most riding are about as smooth and maintained as a trail could be and lemme tell ya you start hitting the high 40's low 50's your just asking to be scraped off a tree.

My 2003 Rincon was a pig. Raced my buddie's 660 Grizz [ in 4x4 mode ] up a very long/sandy hill, he kicked my ***.

Than I raced him up the same hill in 2wd, and my Rincon did'nt produce enough wheel speed to even make it to the top of the hill in 2wd. The Grizz made it with NO problem.

The tall gearing on the Rincon was a disappointment for me,as was the non adjustable shocks, no locker, leaky drum style front brakes, poor ground clearance,no downhill engine braking, and no EFI.I know they addressed alot of this with the newer Rinny, non the less, the 2003 Rinny left a bad feeling with me.

Sold it, bought a new 2005 EFI 700cc King Quad and except for the very plush ride, I did'nt miss anything about the Rinny.

The 680 OHV,makes 39hp that just very low for a big Bore. the 500s and 550s make that now.
