100 hrs. is way to long for a regular oil change, much less your first one! (I think it actually says 20 hrs. for the first change.)
I do an oil and oil filter change at 1 hr. on a new engine, and the purpose is to get the metal shavings left over from machining, out of there as soon as possible. Same with the front and rear diffs.
Every manufacturer has a vested interest in presenting their machines as being "low maintenance", so those maintenance intervals in the manual are unrealistic in the real world......
Stick with a petroleum oil like Honda GN4 or Maxima Premium during break-in, then after that you can change to a synthetic if you wish. I run Maxima Extra, ester synthetic in everything.
Probably already to late to break it in properly: http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

Owner's manual has good info and pictures. If you have basic mechanical exdperience and ability, it is easy.
Some good basic oil info: http://www.thumperfaq.com/oil.htm
