VERY IMPORTANT QUESTIONS THAT NEEDS AN ANSWER

Will a 2002 400ex with pipe and hotcam camshaft and knn filter pull as hard as a crf250r or yz250f- or basically any of the motocross 250 dirtbikes
I always wanted to get a new quad- but today and yesterday i drove my friends crf250r and yz250f, and MAN those things run like bats from hell- i love them A LOT!
Does a 400ex with pipe and hotcam and knn filter stand a chance in acceleration in really loose topsoil/just-about-sand-dirt?
Will it at least pull hard enough to "scare" someone who has never driven quads bigger then a 400utility?
Can you feel it pull in your arms when you go wide-open-throttle?
Can they pull the front end up in 3rd gear? 4th gear? can you get the front tires up a foot off the ground when you shift into 5th?
Thankyou very much
If i dont find a quad that compares to a crf250r without costing 1000$$ more than a crf250r- i might just get a dirtbike- drool
i guess people on here are right about not going wrong with any of these bikes

A 400 ex is ok,but nothing like a good dirtbike to pull hard thru the gears!!As for wheelies in 3 and 4th;if you were on pavement and weighed 300+lbs and pulled real hard-maybe!!!!!Get a 2-stroke older honda or yamaha 250,and youll be very happy!!!JMHO

Of the performance quads, the EX is the mildest one. It excells as a tight trail machine. Although it has descent top speed, it is more of a toruqer and the engine doesn't mind being lugged down during slow technical riding. Doesn't sound like you are exactly looking for a trail quad......
If you need the thrill of speed or need to have the bars ripped out of your hands, you are going to want one of the 450's....I like the Honda and the Yamaha.

ya but dont the 450s need to rev high in order to build power? or do they pull your arms right from 3500rpm already?
I would like a torquey quad, that pulls hard down low, with a strong midrange, and a decent top- quads with really strong tops are good for drags but for trails they kinda suck
track vs trail- its 50/50 for amount of time spent on them
the thing that also makes me want this specific 400ex, is that it has elkas, +2 aarms, and reinforced rims
im not getting a honda 450r unless its a good price
the cheapest 450r i have seen was 6000 (canadian) and thats out of my price range, yfz450s (440s actually from 2004) can bve found for under 5000 which sounds a lot more attractive, same goes for preds, but i would hate to blow my tranny just because i accidentally powershifted when you land on shifter when ytou jump
z400 is too tall
edit: the opnly z400 that looks attractive to me would be one with at least +2 axle and +2 aarms, i want a quad that is at least 2 inches wider than it is tall, and it must be under 46" tall

Youre fighting a loosing battle.
To make a 400EX hang with a motocross bike you would have to spend more money on it than it and the bike combined would cost.
Only way you will have a hope is in a low traction situation where the quad would hook up better.

as fare as new quads go you'll only find dirt bike by the seat of your pants power in the 450 class quads and if your like me , used to 2strokersmokers, youl still want mods . FYI the 450s can pull vary hard and vary fast

one of my friends has a kfx700 and he said that his cousins yz250f pulls harder than a kfx700 and even his other cousins 06 trx450er- that sounds impressive
those dirtbikes will be enough power for me as it will be my first dirtbike- and first vehicle with fully manual tranny- but i've had probably about 5hours seat time one other dirtbikes and almost an hour seat time on 250s in really soft dirt which was almost sand, and had some rough spots
kx250f's are looking real good (wouldnt want to go honda or yamaha, we already have them in our group)

Dirt bikes are way faster than quads of equal displacement...who doesn't know that? A dirt bike is ~175 pounds lighter and only has 2 little wheels vs 4 big ones.
There are a dozen kids who ride with us who are on 250 4-storkes, and 125 2-strokes, and any one of them can beat any quad on the planet. Not quite sure what the mystery is here.......
