Default Eiger vs Rancher

Yeah, I saw that 20 inches wider thing... and it cracked me up. It's actually like 1" wider. I don't put a whole lot of faith in magazine articles in general.

The 450 Griz is the mid-sized Yamaha I was referring to. Liquid cooled, IRS, locker...

To me the Honda's engine and transmission are it's biggest strengths, and the ground clearance is it's biggest drawback, but then monster rocks are part of where I ride...

I'm sure both are great machines. I couldn't be happier with my Eiger. As far as climbing hills, the other day I shot up a 40-degree, log and rock-covered hillside going about 25-30 mph in high-range no problem. I'm sure the Honda would perform just as well. I just feel a lot more comfortable knowing that I have the stump-pulling torque multiplication that low-range offers when ever I need it. If you've ever been exposed to rock-crawling you know that it's all about crawl-ratio!!

i own a eiger i really like the 5 speed with the 5 gears being able to use them in low lots of toruqe. but both are good machine you should be happy with them i like the liquid cool though.the eiger has a oil cooler an electric fan i know at some dealers you can test drive maybe this will help .my buddy has a rincon he just beats the heck out of it and it just keeps going .

Buy which everone you like to throw a leg over! They are both great machines! Both come in 5 speeds. The EFI does not impress me at all. If they would put EFI set up like a car instead of the half a$$ units the offer currently. I would say the Rancher all the way!!! I may be a Suzuki fan but the Rancher is an awsome rig.

the efi is a big upgrade on the 420. the 420 is the best quad in its class, hands down. the only improvement i would like to see is a locker. i love that mud.

I ride with a person with a EFI SP 500 not sure what its advantage is. It does not go or accelerate faster, the carb model starts just as easy and if it,s a cold winters day then I guess thats what the choke for. I hear efi is better if you plan on riding up MT Everest or something. If EFI had a performance edge
over a carb then why do the performance serious motocross not us them?

Best in its Class? Is it not a Utility Class ATV? How can a Utility with small 24" tires ,low Ground clearance and not low range be the best in its class or great in Mud? The 420's more with a general trail riding 4x4, like the 450 Wolverine or 500 Srambler.

IF they put racks on the Wolverine and Scambler would the call them Utility ATV also?

efi has a lot more acceleration than a carb does. its the best in the 400 cc class. low range is a joke . if you got it fine, but as previously stated the only advantage is pulling something a long distance. as far as trails or mud it has 0 advantages. if you have such a great poopoo why do you spend so much time in the honda forum? and you can look at the number of units sold as support that hondas great bikes.

If you haven't spent some time on a 420 then jump on a carburated bike you can't appreciate what the efi does for the 420. Slap the throttle on a 420 and it's instant power almost like dumping the clutch, the reason 420 pulls wheelies easily even though it's an auto clutch. 420s have good power but alot of the peppy feeling they have is the fuel injection.

"efi has a lot more acceleration than a carb does"

And Honda does know this knowledge and continues to use a carb (and ever other manufacturer) on there Race Serious CRF450,in a sport where every little advange counts?

" as far as trails or mud it has 0 advantages"

Guess you do not do much rock clawling on your trails? Do a google search on "ATV mud running sesults" and tell me what place a ATV with no low range came in.

I had a Foreman 450 with that super 1st gear which was fine for load pulls up to 3mph at a screaming rpm,but some times you want that low gurnt at 15 mph, thats were low range come in.

I would love to see a Eiger in low range in a tug of war with a Rancher and see what would happen. I would bet on the ATV with "the law of physics" on its side and we know which one that is.

"its the best in the 400 cc class"

Not sure where you get this info from. The 421 Grizzly is in the same Class as the 420 Rancher and with 10.8" more ground clearance,25"tires,low range and Diff lock it also defied the law of Physic and lost to the Rancher some how?

If the 421 Grizzly can beat out a 500 Rubicon and 500 Foreman why not the Rancher?

It,s Sunday I,m just fooling around here so blast away.

like i said b/f why is honda the number one seller? polaris isnt even in the top three. and on top of that the rancher is hondas number one seller. read all the shoot outs and the 420 won nearly every one of them. eh??
