im not totally against belt drives i like the brute forces, but just prefer gears more. those brutes are crazy powerful!!! just one more question and i must quit on this topic, if belt drives are so great why is no sport quads rolling with em? and dont get me wrong if you got a quad, any quad be happy!!!</end quote></div>

because they are HEAVY..... look up the trx250ex specs and can-am DS250 specs

The ds is 429lbs and the trx250ex is 349 or 360lbs i dont know for sure

the engine weighs about 30-40lbs more on a cvt quad.... but i bet if you added a manual clutch to a trailblazer 400 2 stroke i bet it would be competetive with a 400ex or 350raptor on the track.

And Honda does know this knowledge and continues to use a carb (and ever other manufacturer) on there Race Serious CRF450,in a sport where every little advange counts?

The racers use Carbs because they are quickly adjustable and do not require additional electronics. With all the mods that one puts on a competitive quad, you can't just easily reprogram an EFI to perform optimally.

With everything optimized, a Carb and EFI both make the same peak power, however the better atomization of fuel and the even distribution of this fuel, allow the EFI to hold the peak power over a greater band of rpm's. There are several racing series that allow EFI, some the don't. The ones that do typically allow more deviation from a standard, such as Formula One. The ones that don't (like Nascar) are concerned about additional electronics hiding things like traction control. Besides, Nascar has been trying to slow it's cars down...not speed them up.

ok...like someone mentioned before u should have posted this in a genreal atv forum instead of a biased honda forum...of course nobody will be able to say nething good about the eiger without 20 honda people sayin why thier honda is better, even tho tlc is doing a good job at defending his points if u ask me. but i started reading this forum and rememberd a 2007 summer edition of atv magazine where they had a test called THE UNDER $5500 SHOOTOUT...which included the following atvs....honda rancher 420es, kawasaki prairie 360, polaris hawkeye 300, suzuki eiger 400, and the yamaha grizzly 350. well it turns out at the end of the test the suzuki eiger had less checks against it, not saying that magazines are always right but i figured id throw that in to this conversation. As far as the low range gear doesnt matter tho, i dont know who thinks this but obviously u havent had to pull much with ur atv...so maybe the honda will pull it in 1st gear? but id rather not have to go 2mph for a long distance. As far as the efi goes, not saying it will mess up but its rather new to the atvs as of now and id alot rather work on a carburator then and efi unit.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll be ending up with a Vinson after all this, the dealer had one for a couple hundred more then the eiger so I figured I couldn't go wrong. Any comments on the vinson (I know this is the wrong forum for that).
thanks

I still have the article. The Rancher won the test based on power and "fun factor". The Eiger was a very close second. They said that either of these quads were excellent choices. The Eiger was given higher marks on it's ride and better stability on trails and over obstacles.

I think the Vinson was an awesome choice.

hereS wat the magazine article says in the very end of the tests, and this is where i thought it says the eiger won...NOW THATS A CLOSE CALL...IF U SEE NO CLEAR-CUT WINNER HERE, YOUR NOT ALONE. BUT LOOK FOR THE QUAD WITH THE FEWEST MAJOR CHECK MARKS AGAINST IT AND YOU HAVE TO GO WITH SUZUKIS EIGER. IT HAS POWER, DECENT TURNING MANNERS, NICE SUSPENSION, COMFORT, AND A QUALITY FEEL..ALL EXTREMELY CRITICAL IN THE FINAL ANALYSSIS.. after that it goes on to tell about the rancher but i just typed that word for word out of the magazine sooo i dunno how the rancher won in this after what i just typed
