like i said b/f why is honda the number one seller? polaris isnt even in the top three. and on top of that the rancher is hondas number one seller. read all the shoot outs and the 420 won nearly every one of them. eh??</end quote></div>
Honda makes a better car than General Motors but GM sells more cars ,so I don't get your logic.
I,m sure they sell alot of 500 Rubicons and Foreman but that sure did not help them in the above shoot out links.
I can,t seem to find a 420 Rancher shootout, post one if you can. It would be interesting to see how it would do against the King Quad 450(which beat out all the 500s Utilities) or the 421 Grizzly.
I also agree, I think Yamaha sells the most ATVs.

1. Honda 33%
2. Polaris 24%
3. Yamaha ( very close to number 2) 23%
The rest where in the single digits as far as total atv sale for the industry. It was stated 2006 total atv sold in the U.S. Also Polaris out sales every manufacter in eight states in the U.S. 6 state in and around the Midwest.
Personally I think what ever you throw a leg over and call your own is all that matters.
This topic is like Ford vs. Chevy. No one will ever win this battle.
Who cares which is better according to all the mags us ATVers read. If we all believe every thing the mags said , ATV choices would be less than they are now.
Take for example like how they all said Ozarks are better than Recons. My personal experience has proofed to me other wise. They are more like epuals.
Also dushwheels compared a 5 speed to a rubberband drive. I know for a fact a 500 5 speed vinson will out peform an auto vinson.

Someone said that the Grizzly 450 is in the same class as the Rancher. My friend rides a Grizzly 450 and while a nice machine it's 1000 dollars more than a rancher. That puts it in a different price class if you ask me. The rancher has more power than the grizzly 450 anyway.

Best in class means either "Engine size" of a "Utility or Sport". I never heard of the "$5000 ATV out the door" class shootout. They left out Diff lock, rear disks, 25" tires and IRS on the Rancher I hope its at least $1000 less than a Grizzly.

its the number one selling quad. and irs suck on the trails if you are going faster than a turtle!!! a solid axle handles 10x better. irs is more comfortabl, and makes it a lil easier in the mud, but the light weight of the honda makes up for it in the mud. and i dont even want to get started on water proofing a belt-drive, it is much harder than those number one selling hondas. the best deep water machine is the 300. i can show you some video's of those things swimming. show me any other quads doing this.http://www.youtube.com/v/lm-CV5Iga4Y

you obviously havent ridden a 2003 and later CVT tranny quad, THEY DONT LEAK ANYMORE, THEY ARE WATER PROOF
im sure a cvt quad could also swim like that, it would just need 2 more snorkles for the cvt tranny
-- to the guy on the first page who posted the links to the reviews where the honda got pwned: you're not being fair saying (well, you were implying) that the honda's never win at mudding cuz they have no low range, but really they dont win cuz the rincon sucks (no offense) The ranchers would be much better but they need more power to compete, what they really need is another cylinder.
Wouldn't it be cool if honda made a Rancher 850HO TWIN EFI so basically a rincon chassis with a 420 engine with another cylinder added- and a diff lock. Honda would be really good then, one off the best just behind the canam and arctic cat who will have 900-1000cc by then

im not totally against belt drives i like the brute forces, but just prefer gears more. those brutes are crazy powerful!!! just one more question and i must quit on this topic, if belt drives are so great why is no sport quads rolling with em? and dont get me wrong if you got a quad, any quad be happy!!!

well in the 450 class i think the king quad 450 wins hands down it has only 2 hp less than the 680 rincon. 10 inches of ground clearance, efi, diff lock. irs. , but hey if u want 6.5 inches of ground clearance and a stiff ride got get a rancher. by they way esp or foot shifter no difference. extra wear and tear on u on nice 100 plus mile rides.
