250x help!!!!
Recently bought this from a guy who had done some racing with it. He decided to tear it apart and paint the frame. When he reassembled it it wouldn't spark, so he sold it to me. The factory ignition switch and engine stop switch and headlight and taillight have been removed. An aftermarket teathered kill switch had been installed. My question is what would cause it not to spark? I've already had the dealer check the coil and it passed. If it ran great till he tore it apart and put it back together, what could he have messed up? Any ideas?

Several. But you will need a serive manual, or a friend with a 250X to determine where the problem lies. Does it have the CDI? You never know if you have never heard it run. Then again, the problem could be stator related. Again, the possibilities are endless when you have situations such as this. I would get a manual and be sure you have everything and the proper connections before going forward.

I would have to say, that if it ran before and not after, something is not plugged in correctly.
When was the teather switch installed? has it always been on it, or was this installed while apart for the painting?
Check for pinched wires where things have been put together, trace them all. The wiring is really simple on that machine, tracing all the wires shouldnt take to long, remove the fuel tank and follow them all along thier paths, and you will probably find your trouble. I have even saw them get pinched where the handle bars mount.

Thanks for the replies. Ok so I traced the wiring the best I could and everything seems to be where it needs to be. Also took the stator in to be checked at a local shop and it passed. No one can check the cdi without it being on the bike and I can't readily take the bike to the shop. Was wondering if the cdi off another bike would work on it? If so what ones? Also was wondering if anyone has better wiring diagrams than the ones in the Clymer manual I have? ANy help is appreciated.
