I just rebuilt the motor on this machine. It was not running before. When it started up, the fuel pump will not stop running. It is causing the carb. to over flow. Is there anyway to check the relay to see if it is functioning properly?

call me silly, but I think it runs all the time...it isn't efi setup, it just makes sure the fuel demand is there when the float calls for it. It isn't a hard pressure setup.

No, its not supose to run all the time, however there is power to it all the time,WHILE the engine is running. If the pump is running all the time the problem is not in your relay, its in the carb. you have a stuck or malfunctioning float valve that is not stopping the fuel flow. The way that system works, is when the pump senses the correct pressure on the fuel line, it stops pumping, but there is still 12 volt going to the pump so when line pressure drops the pump can run to bring it back... what you will normally feel is this... at idle, the pump will "click" every 5 to 10 seconds. it will not run constantly. So, if you have fuel running out the carb, your problem is in the carb, not the pumping system.

I also rebuilt the carb. along with the motor. The fuel pump prime's up after the initial turn over and runs for a few seconds. Once the engine is running, the relay is controlled by the firing. The faster the enging runs, the more fuel it pumps. I took the relay out and tapped on it lightly and applied dielectric grease to the connectors of the relay. It started working correctly. After I turned the engine off and back on, it messed up again. I ordered a relay. I will let you know if this solves the problem. Thanks for the reply's.
