Default shift problems

my 04 rancher es blinks the gear number when i start it and will not shift gears. i shift it thru the gears with the manual shifter and it works til i turn it off. when i start it back up it starts to blink again. can anyone help

Some of the ES components are the subject of a recall. Check with your dealer....

Default shift problems

First of all you need to count the number of times that it blinks, it is a code that tells you what part of the ES system has a problem. It should blink x number of times then pause briefly and then blink again. It will do this over and over again. Not sure about an 04 Rancher but I am having problems with my 07 Foreman ES. It is blinking 3 times, Code 3 means a problem with the angle sensor component which from what I have read is a very common problem. I have a sensor on order hopefully that fixes it.
