Default Neutral Safety Switch problems?

I have a 2001 Honda 350 4x4 manual shift. For the last few months the green neutral light stays on in all gears and it has cranked up in any gear (including reverse). Which really seemed pretty convenient so I haven't pursued any fix for it. Yesterday morning after riding it for about an hour, I shut it off, went back out to get on it and now the green light will not come on and it will not start. It doesn't turn over at all. When you hit the start button it doesn't do anything. I did manage to jump off the starter and turn it over but then the plug was not firing. My guess is it's the neutral safety switch and I would be just as happy to bypass it somehow and go back to having it crank in all gears. Is that a pretty good guess at what the problem is and what would be the quickest and best way to bypass it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Purchase a service manual for your bike. I bought one for mine for about $16-$20 on ebay. Find the wire for the neutral sensor and I think you can just ground it of to the frame and that will suffice. That manual will come in very handy for all repairs.

Thanks for replying. I located the wires going to the neutral safety switch. There were 2. Looked at a diagram and found the one for the neutral switch (I believe the other was for the reverse light) and grounded it out. Works great. Found everything I need on this site. Thanks so much for the help.

If you want to have a permanent start in gear override, run a wire from ground, through a switch and back to the wire you just fixed for the neutral safety switch. Just be sure to make good connections solder them if you have the tools to do so. I did this on my 1998 forman 450 manual shift and it is the most convenient mod I've made yet. No more rocking the bike to get it in neutral to start, just press a button I installed on the handlebar and start it up in any gear. I recommend starting with the park brake on for safety.
