There is a trick to starting these. Never ever touch the throtle before or during starting when it is already warm.
When cold, mine needs full choke and a couple stabs on the throtle to inject some fuel. The minute it starts, I take the choke off (otherwise it races...not good for an ice cold engine!) and baby the throtle for a couple minutes.

Well thats the thing when i do just put the choke out and all it will do is just crank till the battery dies... the only way i can get it to start with the battery is either put my 200amp batt charger on it but still then it takes a while... then it will not idle very good anymore it will ususally always die but when its PIPEING hot it will fire right up...

The only recall I know of on the '06 450er was for the ball joints, not the starter.
I start my '04 kick start the same way as Recon, two stabs of the throtle, choke on full and it starts first kick every time.
My friend's wife has an '06 450er and this is the way she starts it too! They would always run the battery dead trying to start it without pumping the gas first until I told them how I start mine.
