If your looking for stone cold reliability the forman 500 manual shift cant be beat. It boasts many features of the rubicon such as disk brakes and stuff, just not a fancy auto or a liquid cooled motor. If I could not get the Canadian Trail Edition Rubicon with its fantastic exclusive shocks I wouldnt bother with it. If you want an auto, it is one of the nicest trannys on the market.

I'm a traditionalist manual transmission guy, so it would be the Foreman for me....but only if I was looking for a pure work quad. If you actually mostly trail ride and only do light work, also take a look at the Rancher 420. I wouldn't trade mine for either of the other two machines!
Be advised that lots of folks in here have posted problems with the ES system....so it is buyer beware on that one. For me, why would I want to pay an extra $200 for a system that I neither need nor want, the might give me problems down the line.......

I've got a Foreman and ride with a buddy with a Rubicon. I have a personal preference for foot shift, so I prefer my Foreman.
If I were going to tow heavy, drag a disk or farm tool, or plow in tight places, I'd consider the Rubicon. It does switch between forward and reverse quicker, though reverse shifts in the Foreman gets easy once you are used to it.
Anyway, if you like to shift, get the Foreman. If you hate to shift, get the Rubicon. The price difference is too small to let it prevent getting what you want.
I also agree that the Rancher is a great machine, if you want something physically smaller.
