400ex: stock bore vs. 416

ok for one, you will love the 416.......and to answer your question, your friends have a TWO stroke not a four stroke......two strokes are required to have rebuilds every so often, and you dont have to do that with a fourstroke.....thats why you hear fourstrokes are so reliable, esp hondas, because you dont have to keep maintanence up on them like a two stroke.......hope this helped some..........

It's really up to you...

nc400ex01's correct:

Your friend's 2 strokes have to be re-ringed quite often to stay in top shape, this is somewhat isolated to 2 strokes. Due to their lubrication & design, they require much more frequent rebuilds, especially when raced.

4 strokes on the other hand will last much longer between re-rings & especially needing to be bored. Run quality oil, keep it clean, run the correct octane level, keep your air filter in top shape and you shouldn't have to re-ring, or bore your cylinder for a very long time.

Will someone please tell me where to get an 11:1 stock bore JE piston, a GT thunder cam, new springs and rocker arms.
I can't find any of these items anywhere. I've looked through several copies of Dirtwheels with no luck.
If you could also give prices that'd be great.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong. But isn't a 416 piston lighter than a 440 piston? Therefore would the 416 actually be faster on top? I want top end.

Yes, and possibly. Keep in mind that pistons can generally be lightened to a degree. My assembly is withing 10g of stock. My thoughts were to keep it as close to stock weight for balance purposes, anything else gained was frosting.
