Rancher 350 ES problem
From your other post I gather the unit has been setting a while.
The battery may be week or have poor conection on one of the terminals
The shift ysstem operates of like 5 volts. With a battery in an ill state of charge good voltage to shift may not be obtained
Another issue you may want to address is the clutch.
Once the unit is running, take the emergency shift lever and pull up into 2nd gear. Hold the rear foot brake down with your right foot and pull both hand brake levers. With your left foot step down on the emergency shifter and hold it down (do not let up on it at all), give the unit some throttle. If it tries to go foreward or pull the engine down, the clutch is stuck. Keep giving it throttle while holding brakes and down on the emergency lever (clutch position). The clutch should break free the engine rpms will pick up like if you were in neutral. After the clutch has freed up, with the emergency shifter, shift back to neutral. Turn the key off and back on. This will reset the shift system so the electric shift buttons will function.
If this process does not cure the issue, you may have a bad angle sensor.

Rancher 350 ES problem
It is sometimes necessary to rock a manual tranny quad back and forth a little to get it to change gears when it is sitting dead still. Best solution is to shift down as you come to a stop, and then you are in neutral already.
If you are refering to some specific problem caused by the ES, then more fool those who didn't do their homework and wisely avoid that system...
