Default 450 S Shifting problems

A friend of mine at work has a 450 S and he just got back from hunting and went to back it out of his truck and his bike will up shift but not downshift. He got it into third before he realized, but now it won't shift down. The shift lever is not slipping of the shaft, so it has to be an internal problem.

Has anyone else had this problem?? We are both mechanics so we have no problems splitting the case to fix it but we would like some kind of idea what to preorder.

Any thoughts?? and thanks

It is simular to the Rancher 350 problem. Shift plate assembly inside the front engine cover broke. Easy fix
Check out Ron Ayers microfiche for that Honda under gearshift drum. One of 3 parts is broke or bent. #17, #11, #12 or one end of spring #14 is broken off

The shift plate was broken in half. It would've been a pretty easy fix, but my buddy had the engine on the bench when I got there So at least he knows how the get the motor out and it's now shifting like new again. Thanks for the help guys!!
