I"ve got 99 300 4x4, and i've had it buried in mud and water up to the handlebars, and it cut off! Luckily two winches were able to get it out, we turned it up on end and let the water drain out of the exhaust, took off the airbox lid and let all of the water run out of it, and then, we took the spark plug out, used the back up kick starter a few times and it fired water out the spark plug hole! Put the plug back in, and it started right up witht the electrice start! now that's Honda reliability! I havn't had a single bit of trouble with it since!

ccman057,
That place looks killer. Think you'd have room for another quad out there?

Bigsqueeze,

Thanks for the post...

I have heard that it is safe to sink the ES Rancher as long as the handlebar (shifter) does not go under...is this true? or have you heard anything?

Also, I went across a pond...and I am sure that I lost the bottom but the Rancher kept churning...do these bikes float? I was certainly impressed...

Personally, I think we all may see longer life from our Ranchers if we don't treat them like submarines, but that said ..

Keep the air intake above water and hit the trottle. That keeps water from entering through the exhaust, and if you don't sink the sucker, you stand a chance of making it through.

If I have to make a choice of which end to let go underwater while the engine is still revving, I'll choose the exhaust.

ccman057-- That place kick a$$!!!! I was in King's Mtn this weekend (just a drive through). By your website. It looks like you have a lot of big bore 4x4 w/ mud tires. I would love to join you guys. Can you tell me exactly where it at, and the best way to get there. It looks like you guys get into some good nasty stuff that looks pretty deep. How would a 4x2 handle that kind of soup in your opinion? Do any 4x2 ride with you guys?
