I might be getting a 250r and wanted to know what a reasonable price for one, that is in good condition. And what should I look for when buying one ( like problems and things that you can't notice to well).

watch for cracks in the frame, and welds. Rear shock linkage. Bent A-arms, steering stem..


in my mind there is no reasonably priced 250R....execpt around 3,000 for an 86..up to 5000 for an 89.......

 

I got my 87 for $900 but by the time I got it running good and fixed up I have $4k in it now. I just saw an 88 that was real clean with some aftermarket parts sell for $4500 here in IL. It sold pretty fast, too.

 

I have $1800 inv. in my '86(not perfect).Just saw an '87 at cycletraderonline for sale in Hickory, Pa. Asking $3700...had a 310/330(not sure)w/some extras.There was some others in your area.

 

Watch for cracks in the frame around the steering stem amd the swingarm. And check the rear end real good. There kinda hard onbearings and housing
if they wern't taken care of. Expect to pay anywhere from 2500.00 to 10,000.00 depending on how nice of one you buy

It's more like, are you willing to spend what someone is asking?
If you find an R and it is what you want or close to it, is the price fair to you?
Prices vary all over the country also. My nephews in Oregon are telling me that R's are going for at least $1000 more up there than here (southern CA).
If you have a limited amount to spend, well, you find what you can close to what you want and see if your cash will make it. Sometimes you get lucky and get a great deal.

 

i bought an 88 r one year ago and paid 3500$. it was completely race ready and had ranger truck bed full of extras. and i havent had a problem with the bike yet.it had works shocks,ported and polished,lectron carb and a bunch of other stuff good luck

 

Most here in Oregon are going about 3000, almost all with mods, pipe k&n etc...
Even the water cooled ATC's are about that much
I just found one for 2500!

 

Does anyone know where I can find the specifications for a stock R.

 

Expect to pay about $4000-$6500 for a completely restored modified to the max race quad and about 2500-4000 for nice stock and mildly modified 250R's. $6500 isn't a bad price considering you will pay more for a Raptor (STOCK) and the stock raptor gets smoked in ALL areas to a complete race 250R.
