well i jsut put a wiseco 440 kit in it and an fmf exahust, its a k and n intake and stage 2 jets, run great except it still ticks, doesnt seem to be the chain slack, we adjusted that, and it seems to be coming from around the left side fof the crankcase......any ideas....PLEASE HELP ITS DRIVING ME INSANE!

 

did you ever have a problem on any of your 400ex's where after your ride for about an hour the quad like locks up making a really loud weird screatching noise but when you pull in the clutch it goes away and you can keep going for a coupel minutes until it does it again. I was told fromt he previous owner that the clutch hub was bad so i ordered a new one and while i was replacing it i saw the clutch basket was worn so am waiting for a new basket. Do you think it could be these clutch issues?

 

on my 400ex the valves tick a lil bit all the time but if the decomp is stuck the right exhaust valve will tick pretty bad and to get it fixed all you need to do is jiggle the crank back and forth real quick to get it unstuck

 

how would i go about checkin the decomp and what do you suggest for fixing that THANKS

 

the de comp. mech. sucks....yeah i dont know why honda does this, but you can take away the dowel pin for the de comp. mech. by putting a aftermarket cam it it. lie a hotcam or webcam.

 

do you think that is what the ticking is though, and if it is does it hurt anything or jsut get annoying

 

in the long run, it might hurt something...im not Honda. I do know i got rid of mine by simply getting rid of that factory cam. i would put my money on the cam chain as far as the tick!!

try a new one.

 

i have a 440 an it gets so hot the pipes glow red after runnin a few min stock pipe stage 1 hot cam an a 152 jet
