i'm looking into a new quad and want to know how you shift into reverse on the 400ex thanks

 

Put in neutral pull in clutch turn **** on r. front fender then shift down twice.

 

so it's just like the z400 then?

No a Z you don't have to put in nuetral just pull in clutch and turn the **** then shift down

 

You don't need to put the 400ex in neutral either. You can shift into reverse from first gear.
After finished with reverse pull shifter up once and you are in first gear again.

 

When I bought my bike the salesman said that if shifted from first to reverse instead of neutral to reverse it can mess up the reverse spring or something like that so I am going by what I was told. They also said the same thing when I went to get the recalled spring replaced.

 

ok but don't you still go from first to reverse i mean that is the shift pattern.
plus i just got an 05 400ex do you know where i can find a list of possible recalls?
anything helps

 

From neutral yes that's the shift pattern, once down first, once down again rev. I called my dealer and they ran the vin. to find out. It wasen't so I brought it to them they replaced the spring and gave me a paper to prove it in case I sold it. Mine is an 05' also. If it was bought new it probably hasen't been changed. As far as the neutral to rev. thing I'm just trying to save you the headache of having your bike stuck in rev.
