Good read, thanks. I agree with about 90% of what he says.
I use Rotella dino in everything that runs it. Never had an oil failure in anything. I put it in my GSX 1100 and it puts out a touch more power than any ATV. No slipping clutch; just a smoking tire!!! No blown trannies.
Goes in my D-max my 6.5 my JD my Case, my blown small block, nitrous big block.........you get the point........I just get a barrel of the stuff. 1 oil is all I need.
The thing I like about this guy is he talks about additive packages and not so much about base stock. The package is where it's at IMHO.
Have fun with choosing your oil. A bunch of good ones out there and really no bad ones.

Rotella T syn. is what I use in everything I own but my 06 Harley. I have used in my Gold Wings as well as my CBR and I can really say it inproved the shifting. I would use in in the Harley but it is not 50w. When I change the oil in my Foreman I will put it in as well.

This article is ancient! If you just discovered it now, you are years behind the curve.....
I have talked to the author several times. He is a local high mileage So. Calif. freeway commuter, and his primary goal was economy over everything else, and he freely admits that his study was never a quest to find the worlds "best" oils.....but rather that he was looking for something that was reasonably good but also cheap. He also admits that he left many good oils out of his study....and besides all that, a lot has changed since then!
Some good reading on oils in general: http://www.thumperfaq.com/oil.htm
Some reading on synthetics: http://www.p1-performance.com/pdf/oildoc.pdf
http://www.maximausa.com/techn...news/LubeNews2002.pdf
Rotella is a Group III oil, and compared to the other two types of synthetics, (Group IV PAO and Group V esters), it has the least desireable chemistry. While the old formulation had a descent additive package (to stand up to the thrashing it will get in a motorcycle transmission), the new formulation does not....due to the introduction of cayalytic converters on diesels.
Is Rotella a "bad" oil? No. Is it the "best" oil you could find for your motorcycle engine (remember, your engine and transmission share the same oil, unless you have a 450R)? No! It is however cheap, and that is the main thing it has going for it......

Recon,
why can't you post without some off the wall sarcastic remark. Maybe it is old news, maybe it isn't
just thought it was interesting reading.........you don't have to insult the author of this thread just to make your ( I am right ) point. Everybody has a right to his own opinion and choice.
