disc brake conversion
#1
i posted this in the mods forum but thought i would do so here also. My 2003 foreman is due for a brake job. The wheel cylinders are actually froze up on the left front tire b/c of rust and the other brake shoes, drums, etc are nothing but rust. I was wondering what people's opinion was as to about to do the disc brake conversion or replace the drum brakes and components that are on the quad? thanks in advance.

[that was] my plan too. run the drums until they needed to be fixed. there are quite a few positive posts about the conversion kit, and a few articles here and there. My impression from research is that the xtreme products was the better kit.

me and my buddy both run the HL disc conversion front kit, he's run 2000 miles with his, mine a couple hundred, neither have bad things to say except some noise from clacking and slightly warped rotors, but i will say having brakes is more then worth it, removing all the different seals make it worth it

yea, the brake shoes on the quad are actually about new with plenty of life left but there is no stopping power at all. the brakes won't hardly lock up no matter how hard you pull the lever if you're moving at any kind of speed. have you guys only done the conversion on the front or rear also?

Funny how Honda only offers all Disk brakes on the top of the line 680 Rincon, like is some kind of special option. Even the cheap Chinese ATVs use disks now. I would think drum brakes would cost more to produce since they look so big and heavy.
When my friend payed $8000 Canadian for a new 500 Foreman ,I almost freaked when I seen drums brakes still being used on the back like my old 450 Foreman.
