Default 1st sport atv bought yesterday, 400ex my thoughts

Ok I bought a new 2007 400ex yesterday 1/18/08 from schroaders honda in NC. Got HELL of a deal paid $3,999 plus tax and it was $4,268.94 out the door! This is brand new I had him order the 07 I picked it up the day after he got it in the crate as I wasn't too keen on the 08 fender change. All other dealers wanted $5,999 plus tax on this quad.

Ok I've always been a honda man bought 2 new fourtrax 300's in 99, before that owned 2 bayou 220's, 92 fourtrax 200, fourtrax 70, 2 xr 100's, honda z50, go-carts.

So far I love the 400ex it's a sweet ride. However, after I got it home and off the truck I started it and 20 secs after I started it I heard the valves ticking a little.....We rode our fourtrax 300's for over a year before we heard the slightest valve ticking then I adjusted them and never had to touch them again.

this one surprised me when I heard it do the xr400 motors in the 400ex do this new? is it normal?

one other thing I didn't like is how the entire rear end comes off the 400ex. When I picked it up even though it was new I looked it over for any MAJOR scratches etc.. I noticed where the rear fenders meet the side black panels it was scratched a little on each side like something had rubbed it a little. I thought for the price I'm getting it hell I'm not gonna say anything but wondered HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?

*I soon found out how that happened after I took the seat and rear fenders off u have to be careful because if u have the slightest hard time getting it back on there you WILL scratch your side black panels pretty bad....do they sell these panels seperate? I plan on replacing them later since they came a little scratched up and I put a little on there myself now that I got it down it won't happen again.

besides the valves ticking a little being BRAND NEW??? I'm pleased with the power it has and all.

any thoughts on what i've brought up? thanks!

All the quads scratch easily...some colors are worse than others, but black really shows scratches bad. Theres times I really need to wrestle with the rear plastic to get it back on, and thats just the way it is...the stays above the mud gaurds make it tough.
Ive always heard the clicking on my 400ex too. And I know they are in spec. Some could be due to the top of the motor being more out in the open, than the old 300 was. And this lets more noise escape. They are solid , and there will be some mechanical noise. Next time you go to the dealer, ask him about that.
You got a very good deal.
