Default 04 Honda Rancher Shutting Off

I have recently purchased a 2004 honda rancher 400, it has both the automatic shift, and es shift. While riding after a significant amount of time ( riding for 2 - 3 hrs) it will drain the battery and die. I have put a new battery in it and it still does it. Is there a voltage regulator on these bikes that would make it drain the battery if not working correctly? any advice is greatly apreciated !
