Default Engine Oil

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Doctorturbo, your links are invalid. The problem appears to be a redundant typo, where each link is preceded by " https://http://www... " Reset them as " http://www... " and they should work. I'm interested in seeing the information. </end quote></div>
Thanks WOODRAT. Sorry about that. I think I have them fixed? LOL If not I will post them here to cut and paste.

One thing that nobody wants to talk about is contamination. I don't care if it's bulk oil for 50 cents a quart or 15 buck a quart super oil, if your quad gets swamped (seems like a lot of people think their ATV is a boat for some reason??? LOL) the oil is junk!!!

Cmarti I applaud for talking about oil analysis. Your about the only one that I have seen that even talks about it on this site.
Is that your OA? If so, how many miles on that oil?
Did you ever do a base number on the oil?

Default Engine Oil

DocT: I had used Rotella T synthetic in my tractor, ATV,s and small air cooled engines with great success. I decided to look up it's use in MC before putting it in a Goldwing and Grizzly. This is not my UAO, I copied it from a Honda site (it had over 5K on the change). However, I just requested to kits from blackstone and will post them later this year. I actually believe we make a bigger deal out of oil than needed, but I am just curious. ReconRanger is right, in that a bad engine can make an oil look bad. But poor performing oil can't give a good UAO. All things considered I do not even need to use a synthetic, but I do. So if someone wants to stick to JASO, I understand. One reason I use the Rotella, is I do float my ATV's all too regularly, and like having the blue gallon jugs around for oil changes. You are right, deep water is hard on bikes all the way around, and doing it requires added maintenance.

Take care.

I agree with you 100%. I have said this many, many times. I have yet to see an engine ruined because of an oil problem. Not one. And I have seen a lot of blow up engines.
Detonation, yes, air cleaners(or lack of), yes, poor machining, yes, broken parts, yes; but never oil.

I would rather run an oil in my engine for 50 hours that has been run in another engine for 15,000 than run without an air cleaner for 1/2 hour on a dusty road.

Please post the report on this site when you get it back. I have to send a sample off that came out of my D-max. It had almost 10K on the oil when the OMS went off. I'm curious on what the TBN will be and how much life is left in the oil. I was told that GM's monitor system was conservative. I shall now see.

One thing that owner's of the new generation of 450's (all of them...not just the Honda!) need to know is that they need to do frequent oil changes! These engines have little skinny pistons, fewer rings, and very little skirt, so they tolerate a lot of blow by. This results in rapid contamination of the oil by the fuel. You can start with fresh 10W40 oil, and end up with a useless 0W20.......

Default Engine Oil

ok, so just to be on the safe side, ill just take the advice and get the recommended oil for the bike. i had another question though, i called the kawasaki dealer for an aftermarket equivalent oil filter for my bike, after that, a asked if they carried honda gn4, he said no, but he then said they are all made by castrol, and the representative came in and said the only difference between honda, kawasaki, suzuki, etc. oils is the name on the bottle....is this true?

I doubt they are all made by the same company but it could be? Companies usually sub out to the lowest bid. It is true that these quad companies don't make their own oil, it is sub'ed out.
Maybe someone else has more info than I do.

These guys typically know virtually nothing about oil. Ask one what API SG, or JASO MA or MB means sometime, and see just how little they can actually tell you......

GN4 is made by a company called American "something"....can't remember the second name, but if you look up the MSDS on this product the name is on there. You can also find it on the JASO certification sight....I just don't have time to look for it right now.
