Default Play in rear wheel 400ex

Well after riding yesterday I had the quad on the truck so i figured i would check it over. So i checked the back wheels and the right side had quite a bit of play in it. So im thinking wheel bearing. Is it hard to do? It's an 04 400ex.

do you mean the wheel had play or the axle had play?If the a bearing is out then the axle will have play inside the axle bearing housing. If the wheel has play then probably the hub nut is loose.

Well I grabbed the wheel and was able to shake it from left to right about 1/4 inch or so. SO you tell me lol.

If only one wheel is loose...Sounds like you need to tighten the hub nut. If both are loose you have bad bearings in the bearing carrier.

but bearings may be out on one side and that side will play alot and the other will play, but not so much.

I think there is a misunderstanding here.Maybe its me but there are no bearings on the end of the axle where the wheel is so if only the wheel has play then it is a loose hub or loose lug nuts.If the whole axle has play then the bearings are probably bad.The bearings are between the sprocket and the brake disk.

yup was just a loose hub, i took the cotter pin out and turned the bolt about 1/2 turn and put the pin back in. Now she is tight and snug again! Thanks !!
