Default Help with Honda part compatibility

First off i have a 2002 rancher TRX350FM. My cam shaft has some nicks in the lobes so i was looking on ebay for a used one. I found one for a 2003 rancher TRX350FM. Assuming it was the right one i put in a bid. I then went to look up the part numbers but they are not the same. The only difference is in the last three numbers. The part number for the 2002 is 14100-HN5-670 and the part number for the 2003 is 14100-HN5-M00. My question is, Is this cam compatible? I looked online and found a page that did a break down on the honda part number and from what they were saying, the first part of the number is all that really matters in conjunction with the middle part. They said that the last part would identify if a supplier was changed or the part was updated. I also noticed that my machine has some parts in it that end in M00 also.
I called a local honda dealer and the lady said they were not the same but i don't have faith in her answer since i seemed to know more about it then she did. I had to explain what the FM meant in the model number.

What all should i measure when i get to to make sure or is it not even needed?

Good question. And If no one else answers..Id just give it a good looking over by eye. If its grossly different, I wouldnt use it. Then measure the shaft at the journals, and make sure they fit the head correctly. Look down the end, and see if the lobes are timed the same, and the timing marks are in the same location. If all that looked good, I cant see it hurting anything to use it.
