Default portable electric winch

Anybody ever used on of these? I saw one the other day that hooked to a tow hitch. I guess I'm kicking around the idea because I could use it on more things than just my atv (boat, atv winch, come along, engine hoist, winch for my truck, frame straightener)

Damn I can't remember the brand of mine. It is in storage at the moment, but mine is 110 volt. Wish I had a 12 volt, but when I take it with me I carry my generator. Had it for a couple years now and has been a life saver at times. Pulling broke down snowmobiles up on trailers, working on things in the shop to lift and hold up, even used it at our cabin to guide trees away from the cabin when cutting down. Pretty Handy item.

Sounds handy for those time you need to be pulled out backwards and the front winch is usless.

I have a 12 volt portable that has the ability to connect to a ball hitch. Rated at 2000lbs I use it for loading my quad into a Ford van. It's not reversible however but the price was reasonable at $59 from WalMart.

You mean you just have to pull the cable in out manually? and the motor just brings it in?

Correct, there is a **** on the side of the winch that allows the cable to spin out freely. It actually works quite well especially with boaters who prefer a electric winch rather then the hand winch that is common with boat trailers

yeah, the one from walmart is the one that sparked my interest. I was going to try and use it if I get stuck in the mud this weekend. Have you used it for wheelin?

I've just used it for loading quads into vans. No reverse or roller fairlead, just a husky 2000lb winch at a decent price. Compare to a come-along with a motor.
